Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant global threat of far-reaching economic and public health proportions. In 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) established the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) to monitor AMR in common bacteria and invasive fungi, and antimicrobial consumption (AMC) in humans. GLASS aims at collecting strategic information to inform the AMR response at the national and global level. Since 2017, WHO has issued annual GLASS reports describing the expansion and gradual strengthening of the newly established global system.
